Description:  When was the last time anyone was able catch a motive like this handling coal empties at Provo? Looking through my vast collection of prints,I found this classic from March 1993 of Southern Pacific SD40T-2 No.9343 and UP SD40-2's 3128/3644 shoving an empty coal export train returning from Southern California back to the Rio Grande at Provo. In those days all I had was a 35mm snapshot camera since that was all I could afford back in those days. Thanks to the miracle of ''Modern Technology'' I'm now able to make these timeless classics look great!

Description:  Remastered from my previous photo of this train, Union Pacific's CUWBS climbs the final grade coming into Lynndyl on Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision (Now Sharp Subdivision) Approaching the Highway 6 Grade Crossing north of town. This train loaded at the Wildcat Mine on the Utah Railway near Helper and was handed to the Union Pacific at Provo. The line between Provo and Lynndyl was renamed the ''Sharp Subdivision after the UP/SP Merger in 1996. You won't find coal trains led by four SD40-2's anymore.

This right of way has changed drastically,Utah Transit Authority has constructed a double track line along side the former Rio Grande Mainline for it's ''Front Runner'' Operations. The location is now much more difficult to access due to fence that has been constructed.

Back in the early 1990's it was still possible to get a GE C30-7 on the point leading a unit coal train on the Union Pacific. Here 2533 is on the point of a loaded coal train off the Utah Railway at Provo along Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision (Now Sharp Subdivision) at the Highway 6 Overpass.

Description:  Southern Pacific's (Union Pacific) M-ROCH rolls east at Vineyard,Utah passing a waiting westbound coal train on the former D&RGW Mainline. Vineyard was officially made a town in 1989. This train will soon be climbing Soldier Summit and Colorado's Tennessee Pass. In just over a months time, M-ROCH would disappear from D&RGW Rails as UP would reroute most through traffic to the Overland Route.

Description:  While technically a Union Pacific Train,Two Southern Pacific GP60's and a UP SD40-2 are in charge of the Roseville-Kansas City Manifest at Provo. The train is passing by the sight of the old D&RGW/UP Depot that was torn down in 1986 and replaced with the so called ''Amshed''. Nicknamed for the glass hut Amtrak Depot. SP 9750 and company will take their train over Soldier Summit and Tennessee Pass. The tracks in the foreground are those of Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision.

Utah Transit Authority's ''Front Runner '' trackage can be seen swooping off the to the right in the foreground with Maple Mountain in the distance. In tow is UP SD40-2 No.3680 heading for Roper Yard in Salt Lake City for it's 90 day inspection, 3680 has been working on the LJL 57 (Provo-Lynndyl Local). 6295 is former Southern Pacific GE AC4400 No. 218 built in 1995.
