Four Rio Grande Tunnel Motors shove a loaded coal export train into the UP Provo Yard.This train was loaded at the Savage Mine near Price and is bound for Los Angeles,CA. Three of the Rio Grande Tunnel Motors 5350,5394,5380 have been repainted into Southern Pacific colors and still retain their Rio Grande numbers. While 5373 is still in Rio Grande colors as shown in my previous shot. All four have since either been retired,scrapped or even sold off to smaller local carriers. |

Union Pacific had just bought the SP/SSW/D&RGW Combination just seven months before when Rio Grande SD50 No.5505 was sitting and waiting for a new crew to take it's train to Roper Yard in Salt Lake City. While it's now a Union Pacific train at this time,Southern Pacific practices were still in effect However,That would change in just a month's time. |
